Where these numbers come from.
Every price on SemakEmas.my comes straight from Bank Negara Malaysia's official open data. This page explains the source, the update schedule, and the exact formulae we use — so you can check our working.
Data source
We use the Bank Negara Malaysia Open API, Kijang Emas endpoint. These are the same official 999.9 (24K) prices fixed by BNM.
api.bnm.gov.my/public/kijang-emas- Updated every business day, around 10:00 a.m. Malaysian time (MYT).
- No updates on weekends or public holidays — the market is closed.
Holiday gaps are shown honestly. We will never display a stale price without a timestamp.
Methodology
BNM publishes the per-ounce price. Every other number on this site is derived from it using the fixed formulae below:
price per oz ÷ 31.103531.1035 is the number of grams in one troy ounce.
999.9 value × 0.916An estimate of gold content only — NOT a goldsmith quote (which adds workmanship/upah + margin).
999.9 (24K) vs 916 (22K)
Kijang Emas is pure 999.9 gold — that is 99.99% gold (24K). The “916” gold commonly sold at goldsmiths is 22K, or 91.6% pure. That is why the 916 estimate is the 999.9 value × 0.916. It estimates gold content only, not the actual retail price at a shop.
Buy vs Sell
BNM buys from you (you sell your gold to BNM). RM 17,271 / oz
BNM sells to you (you buy gold from BNM). RM 17,979 / oz
The selling price is always higher than the buying price — that difference is BNM's spread.
We work to display BNM's official figures accurately, but make no guarantee of full accuracy, completeness, or timeliness. The figures here are a price reference only and are not investment advice. Always confirm with Bank Negara Malaysia or a licensed dealer before any transaction. SemakEmas.my is not affiliated with BNM.
