Malaysia Ar-Rahnu Rate Comparison

Ar-Rahnu is Shariah-compliant gold pawnbroking: you pledge gold for interest-free (riba-free) financing and pay only a safekeeping fee. The marhun rates below are the assessed value of your gold per gram by purity — the higher the rate, the more you can pledge for the same gold.

Last checked: 8 Oct 2026
  • Pledge (Ar-Rahn)

Hand over gold as collateral; the institution assesses its value (marhun) and offers financing — usually a portion of that assessed value.

  • Safekeeping fee

Not interest — a charge to store your gold securely, based on the marhun value & tenure. This is the real cost of Ar-Rahnu.

  • Redeem

Repay the financing + safekeeping fee to reclaim your gold within the set tenure (typically 6 months, extendable).

POS Ar Rahnu (Pos Malaysia) buys your gold outright. This is the buy-back (WE BUY) price — NOT a marhun pledge value, so it's lower. Shown separately so the comparison above stays like-for-like.

Good to know

  • Marhun rates change daily with the international gold price — the figures here are dated; confirm the current rate at the counter before pledging.
  • The marhun value is an assessment of your gold, not a selling or buy-back price. Approved financing is usually a margin of it.
  • Safekeeping fees, tenure & margins differ between institutions — compare the total cost, not just the marhun rate.

Frequently asked questions

How much can I get from Ar-Rahnu for my gold?

The pledge value (marhun) is the institution's own rate per gram times your gold's weight and purity — currently up to about RM 570.83 per gram for 916. Institutions then lend a margin of that value, commonly around 65–75%, so the cash you receive is less than the marhun value itself.

How is Ar-Rahnu different from a conventional pawnshop?

Ar-Rahnu is structured to be Shariah-compliant. Instead of charging interest on the loan, the institution charges a safekeeping fee (upah simpan) for holding your gold, based on the value of the item and the storage period rather than on the amount borrowed.

What happens if I cannot redeem my gold?

The typical tenure is six months and can usually be extended by renewing and paying the fee. If the pledge is never redeemed, the institution may auction the gold. Any surplus above what you owe is returned to you — you do not simply forfeit the difference.

Which Ar-Rahnu gives the highest value?

Marhun rates differ between institutions, sometimes by a meaningful margin on the same piece of gold, so it is worth comparing before you pledge. This page ranks the published per-gram rates by purity so you can see who values your gold highest today.

Is the marhun rate the same as the gold price?

No. Marhun is a pledge valuation, deliberately set below the market gold price to protect the institution against price movement during the loan. It is also different from a buy-back price, which is what a dealer would pay to own your gold outright.
